Super Fan Spotlight - Queen Latifah Show

"I have been to MANY talk shows and I have to say that The Queen Latifah show is my favorite. The whole experience was awesome!  The VIP experience room was awesome! Here we could take photos with a “life size” Queen and post pictures on Instagram, FB or Twitter which were then posted on the huge social media board in the room for everyone to see. We got great seats and were allowed to take photos of the set, which is NOT very common. Most shows won’t even let you take your phones inside so this was a real treat for us. The warm up gal Bridget was so funny and energetic and got everyone on their feet dancing. All of the audience coordinators were so nice and we felt like they really wanted us to have a great time and Queen really connects with her audience before and during breaks which is great!I give The Queen Latifah show 5 out of 5 stars and would go back to her show in a heartbeat! Thanks 1iota for making it such a great experience!”

Shrimp Ceviche

Shrimp
Ceviche

Prep Time: 5 hours, 20 minutes

Active Work Time: 20 minutes

Yield: Makes about 2 cups

Recipe

1/2 cup fresh lime juice (from about 3 limes)

2 tablespoons fresh orange juice

3/4-pound fresh shrimp, peeled, deveined, and finely chopped

1/3 cup finely chopped tomatillo (about 1 large tomatillo)

1/3 cup finely chopped tomato, seeds removed (about 1 medium-sized tomato)

1/4 cup finely chopped red onion

1 tablespoon super finely chopped Serrano pepper, seeds removed

2 tablespoons finely chopped cilantro

Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper

Olive oil

Mix the lime and orange juice in a medium-sized glass bowl. Add the shrimp, cover with plastic wrap, and let it marinate for about 4 hours in the refrigerator.

Remove the marinating shrimp from the refrigerator and gently mix in the tomatillo, tomato, onion, pepper and cilantro, cover and return to the refrigerator to marinate for about 1 more hour, or until the shrimp appears to be "cooked." It should be completely opaque and slightly pink.
Drizzle with a bit of olive oil and season generously to taste with salt and pepper.

Notes:
You can adjust the amount Serrano pepper you add, depending on how much heat you like. The amount listed in the recipe makes the ceviche medium hot.

Are you wondering how the shrimp in the ceviche is "cooked?" Wonder no more! The acid from the citrus actually changes the structure of the proteins in the seafood, essentially "cooking" it without using heat.

Katie Couric in Los Angeles

Went to see one of  Katie's "Hollywood Take over" shows over the weekend. She taped her shows in Jimmy Kimmel's studio and almost every seat is a good one. We went on Saturday morning and the guests were Will.i.am and Zooey Deschanel.

German Pancakes and Buttermilk Syrup

Christmas Breakfast

German Pancakes and Buttermilk "crack" syrup
In between attending shows, I sometimes make food.

German Pancakes
6 eggs
1 cup milk
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons butter

Buttermilk (or as I call it, "Crack") Syrup
1-1/2 cups sugar
3/4 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup butter
2 tablespoons corn syrup
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
confectioner's sugar

Place the eggs, milk, flour and salt in a blender; cover and process until smooth. Pour the butter into an ungreased 13 in x 9 in x 2 in baking dish; add the batter. Bake, uncovered, at 400 degrees for 20 minutes. Meanwhile, in a sauce pan, combine the first 5 ingredients; bring to a boil. Boil for 7 minutes. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla. Dust pancake with confectioner's sugar; serve immediately with syrup. Yield: 8 servings (about 2 cups of syrup)

*My BFF makes this all the time and gave me the recipe. And I didn't even screw it up either :-)

Oh Ricki your so fine...

Finally got to see Ricki Lake after all these years! I remember watching her show in the early 90's when my kids were little. I always thought that it would be so much fun to be there in the audience. Fast forward almost 20 years and here I am! Must be making up for lost time! Haha.

Ricki Lake Show is now one of my top 5 shows to go to. Everyone was so nice and they made the audience feel welcomed. The set is small and intimate (looked to be about 150 seats if that), and I loved how Ricki interacted with the audience on AND off camera. She is so sweet and adorable and she seems so down to earth. I think we should be friends!!! (even though I got busted for having an "ellen" cell phone cover on my phone...hehe)

Ellen DeGeneres is a star! But we already knew that.

Went to see Ellen get her star on the Hollywood walk of fame yesterday in front on the W hotel in Hollywood. What a fun time! We had a great spot until all the media showed up and blocked a lot of our view. Oh well. We still had fun and I got some good shots.

The Jeff Probst Show knows how to treat his audience well!

Went to a taping of The Jeff Probst Show yesterday. What an awesome show he has! For starters, the audience gets to hang out in the "party" room which has massage chairs, computer stations, snack bar, and stylists doing hair and make-up. How cool is that? This is the only show that I have been to that offers something like this to their audience members. Oh and they are probably the only show that allows you to photograph (in the party room NOT in the studio of course). So that is always fun to be able to take pics and upload to FB, Twitter, etc. while you are actually there. And the staff was super nice. Big shout out to Dana! She was great!

I stepped WAY out of my comfort zone and just went for it! I was chosen to ask a question to a panel of men. I could have asked anything but I just went for it and ask a question about sex! And my poor sister in law was sitting next to me while I was talking about her brother! lol I was totally nervous before it was time to speak, but as soon as they handed me the mic, I actually felt really comfortable. Not sure when it will air but I will keep you posted!

So out of a 10, I would have to give The Jeff Probst Show a 9! I think if Jeff would interact more with the audience OFF camera, like shake hands, maybe take photos (and believe me, I asked), then this show would have gotten a 9.5.

I highly recommend getting tickets to see his show! http://www.jeffprobst.com/get_in_touch/audience/form/index.html

Take your passion and make it happen

So now that I have a Blog, a Facebook, a Twitter account, a You Tube Channel, and a website, I am realizing that this has become a full time job! Oh and not to mention that I actually need to have time to attend the shows too! Haha But I am having such a great time. And to quote Irene Cara's song from the 80's movie "Flash Dance" ....."Take your passion. And make it happen"! So yup. That's what I'm doing.

Here is a Sneak Peek of the "Kathy" show we were at last week. It airs tonight on Bravo. Oh that Sharon Ozbourne....lol She sure is cheeky.

Queen Latifah Show

"BIG SEXY"! Those are the two words to describe Queen Latifah AND her new Talk Show set. What a great experience we had yesterday at the taping of the Pilot of The Queen Latifah Show! Queen is beautiful, funny, super sweet and tall! Especially in heels.

The taping was long but we had a blast. Got to shake her hand a few times (as they had to re shoot the opening a few times and I was the first one to shake her hand when she was walking out). Also shook Cameron Diaze's hand when she left the stage. I kinda held on too long and almost pulled her ring off by accident. haha

After the show, waiters with Champagne (sparkling cider) and pastries came out and we were able to toast with Queen to her new show and I got a hug too. I just wish we were able to have our cameras or cell phones. That would have been an awesome photo. Oh well, it's etched in my brain. Fun Fun Day!

Kathy Griffin

OMG! BEST SHOW EVER! Guests were: Jane F*ing Fonda (as Kathy calls her), Sharon Ozbourne, and Lisa Ling. I believe this is the season finale and will air on June 28th. And a BIG BONUS....as we were walking out of studio here comes Anderson Cooper on his way to the next Kathy taping. He walked right by us but was looking down and listening to one of the producers probably briefing him about the show. My sister- in- law and I couldn't get the words out to say hello to him. We just stood there and stared. haha He is one handsome man! and tiny too.
I hope her show lasts because I would love to go back next season! The audience is the smallest I have ever seen. Looked to be about 100 people and 50 of them were the floor seats for VIP of course. And BTW, this was the first talk show that I have been to where there were more men than women!
